General Hamilton Wanasinghe, the 11th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, has passed away at the age of 91.

A distinguished military leader and former Defence Secretary, he began his service in 1954 and led the Army from 1988.

He was an alumnus of Ananda College and trained at Sandhurst.

Post-retirement, he served as Joint Operations Commander and Defence Secretary until 1995.
