The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources has suspended fishing in sea areas from Kankesanthurai to Kalpitiya and from Hambantota to Pottuvil until further notice.

The decision follows a red alert from the Department of Meteorology warning of strong winds of up to 70 km/h and very rough seas. Fishermen at sea have been advised to return safely, while others are urged to follow official updates.
