The Department of Meteorology has warned of heavy rainfall of around 100–150 mm in some areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern provinces over the next few days.

A low-pressure area is likely to form over the south-eastern Bay of Bengal by 13 October, bringing increased rainfall across Sri Lanka and surrounding sea areas from tomorrow.

Rainfall exceeding 75 mm is also possible in parts of other provinces. The public, naval and fishing communities have been urged to follow weather updates and take precautions against lightning and localised strong winds.
