In PSL 10: Kusal lauds fast bowling standards

Quetta Gladiators’ wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis has lauded the standard of fast bowling in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10.

Mendis, who made his PSL debut in Quetta’s opening fixture against Peshawar Zalmi, remarked that the pace bowling talent in the tournament is of a higher calibre compared to other franchise competitions.

“I’ve previously played in the Lanka Premier League and SA20, but this is my first taste of the PSL. The quality of fast bowlers here is top-notch, which makes the league incredibly competitive,” he said during a press conference in Rawalpindi.

On his debut, Mendis scored an unbeaten 35 from just 14 deliveries, helping Quetta Gladiators amass a commanding total of 216-3, which paved the way for a convincing win over Peshawar Zalmi.

In the following match against Lahore Qalandars, he contributed 28 off 14 balls before being dismissed by Haris Rauf.

“These conditions are favourable for batting, and I’ve been working on enhancing my power-hitting back home. It’s thrilling to perform in such an environment,” he added.

When questioned about his batting position, Mendis expressed his flexibility and willingness to adapt as per the team’s needs. “I’ve batted lower down the order in domestic cricket as well. I’m happy to play at any position, depending on what the team requires,” he said.

It’s also worth noting that Quetta Gladiators are scheduled to take on Karachi Kings next at the National Bank Cricket Stadium on 18 April.
