Human-elephant conflict: 44 elephants, 10 humans dead

A total of 44 wild elephant deaths have been recorded so far this year, according to the Wildlife Conservation Department.

The deaths occurred between 1 January and 20 February.

The causes of the fatalities include shootings, the installation of illegal electric fences, train accidents, poisonings and drownings.

Meanwhile, 10 human deaths resulting from wild elephant attacks have also been reported during the same period.
