Christians worldwide are preparing for the season of Lent, a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and community service, which begins today (18) with Ash Wednesday. 

Observed by Catholics, Anglicans, and other denominations, it signals the start of a time for reflection and renewal, leading up to Easter Sunday.

Pope Leo XIV emphasized the spiritual significance of fasting, describing it as an ancient practice that helps believers hunger for God and foster genuine conversion. 

He encouraged people to abstain not only from food but also from hurtful words, aiming to center their lives around faith and spiritual renewal.

Lent offers an opportunity to reset priorities, focus on divine mystery, and free hearts from life's distractions. 

The pope highlighted that fasting helps recognize true needs, align desires with justice, and keep the spirit of renewal alive amid daily challenges.
