Sri Lanka has launched a unified digital framework aimed at modernising agricultural governance and decision-making, marking a significant shift toward a data-driven agriculture sector.
The Agriculture Enterprise Architecture Framework, Agriculture Interoperability Framework, national Data Sharing Policies, and CROPIX, a digital platform for crop data, were formally introduced at a high-level event co-hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, with funding support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The initiatives together establish the digital public infrastructure for agriculture, addressing long-standing issues related to fragmented data systems, limited coordination among institutions, and weak data-sharing mechanisms across Government agencies.
Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation K.D. Lalkantha said the launch marked a fundamental change in how the sector is governed.
