SriLankan Airlines secures ground handling deal in Maldives

17 Mar 2026 | BY Staff Writer

The Government has approved a new agreement to ensure continued ground handling services for SriLankan Airlines at Velana International Airport in the Maldives.

The current contract for ground handling services at the airport is set to expire on 31 March 2026. As there is only one authorized service provider operating at the airport, a proposal was obtained and evaluated accordingly.

Following this evaluation, and based on the recommendation of the Standing Procurement Committee, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved awarding the contract to Maldives Airport Company Limited.

The new agreement, valued at $ 16.19 million, will cover a three-year period starting from 1 April 2026, ensuring uninterrupted operational support for SriLankan Airlines in the Maldives.

The proposal was submitted by the Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation and aims to maintain efficient ground services for the national carrier at one of the region’s key international travel hubs.
