Committee on Economic surveillance meets under President’s patronage

The Committee on Economic Surveillance, tasked with protecting Sri Lanka’s economic stability amid external challenges, convened at the Presidential Secretariat under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.


The meeting primarily focused on assessing the potential adverse effects of the ongoing Middle East conflict on Sri Lanka’s economy. Key concerns included rising global oil prices, disruptions to maritime supply chains, and obstacles to international trade. 


The committee engaged in extensive discussions on urgent measures needed to stabilize the domestic market and safeguard the welfare of citizens under these challenging circumstances.


Additionally, the committee reviewed the progress of action points from previous meetings.


 The gathering was attended by prominent officials, including Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Anil Jayantha Fernando, Central Bank Governor P. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Secretary to the Treasury Harshana Suriyapperuma, and other senior government and industry representatives.
