• Dr. Kavinda Jayawardana praises US President’s leadership in protecting religious minorities

SJB Parliamentarian, Dr. Kavinda Heshan Jayawardana has expressed his appreciation to US President Donald Trump for his commitment to safeguarding persecuted Christian communities in Nigeria.

In a letter addressed to President Trump, he said the US President’s decisive intervention to address violence, murders, and assassinations targeting Catholics and other Christian communities in Nigeria demonstrates strong moral leadership at the global level.

“By standing firmly against the terrorist elements responsible for these heinous crimes, you have given voice to the voiceless and hope to those living in fear. As a representative of the Catholic community in Sri Lanka, I am deeply moved by your administration’s efforts to draw international attention to these atrocities and to work towards meaningful solutions,” he said.

He added that President Trump’s actions reflect a clear recognition that the protection of religious minorities and the preservation of human dignity transcend national borders and political considerations.

Dr. Jayawardana further noted the vision articulated by the US President—of a world where people of all races, ethnicities, and religions can coexist in harmony and peace—resonates strongly with the values upheld in Sri Lanka.

“Sri Lanka is a nation that has itself experienced the devastating consequences of religious and ethnic conflict, and we deeply value efforts aimed at preventing such suffering elsewhere,” he said.
