The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has called on political parties to allow MPs to speak and vote on the proposed 22nd Amendment according to their conscience.

The BASL noted that the Supreme Court’s determination only addresses the constitutional requirements for the Bill and whether a referendum is required.

It stated that the decision on whether to enact the amendment rests with Parliament and individual MPs.
