Sri Lanka is set to host the prestigious Ironman 70.3 triathlon in Colombo for the first time since 2019, on 22 February.
The event marks a major milestone in re-establishing the country as a hub for international sports, with over 1,000 athletes from 49 countries participating.
Leading up to the race, the #ActiveColombo initiative will launch activities from 19 February to promote the city’s active lifestyle and global connectivity.
Organisers see the event as a step towards transforming Colombo into a vibrant, active, and internationally recognized city.
Yasas Hewage, the event organizer, emphasised the event’s role in showcasing Colombo to the world, while the Mayor of Colombo, Vraie Cally Balthazar, highlighted its significance for the city’s long-term development and collaboration between the public and private sectors.
