Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya will officially end his tenure as a member of the Governing Board and the Monetary Policy Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) on 27 June.
Amarasuriya, who assumed office as the 29th President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) on 29 March, submitted his resignation two days prior, citing the need to fully commit to his new role.
Initially appointed to the CBSL Board on 30 January, 2024, for a 6-year term under the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Act No. 16 of 2023, he will now conclude his duties after fulfilling the mandatory 3-month notice period.
In his resignation letter, Amarasuriya stressed the importance of an independent Central Bank and expressed confidence that his successor would be appointed with the same principles in mind.
