Dengue mosquito larvae were found in 50 premises out of 189 Government institutions inspected during the first day of the three-day national dengue prevention and control programme, the Health Ministry’s National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) said. Out of a total of 31,196 premises inspected on the first day of the programme on Monday (8), a total of 2,097 premises with dengue mosquito larvae were identified. Of these, a total of 8,121 premises were identified as potential dengue mosquito breeding sites. In addition, a total of 1,165 notices were issued on Monday, while legal action was taken against 789 individuals.

Among the specific categories, a total of 56 schools were inspected on Monday, of which 31 per cent were identified as potential breeding sites, while dengue mosquito larvae were detected in seven schools. Of the 178 premises inspected in the construction sector, 93 were identified as potential breeding sites, 41 were found to have dengue mosquito larvae, and legal action was taken against 24 individuals. A total of 189 Government institutions were inspected, with 50 found to have dengue mosquito larvae and 70 identified as potential breeding sites. Out of 96 religious places inspected, 18 were found to have dengue mosquito larvae, while 42 were identified as potential breeding sites. A total of 77 factory premises were inspected on Monday, with dengue mosquito larvae detected in 17 of them. A total of 28,230 residential premises were inspected during the three-day programme, with 7,088 identified as potential breeding sites and dengue mosquito larvae found in 1,760 premises. Legal action was taken against 657 households. The findings indicate a significantly high prevalence of mosquito breeding in locations such as schools and construction sites.

Accordingly, the Ministry has urged the public to maintain clean surroundings, eliminate mosquito breeding sites, and extend full cooperation to the national dengue prevention and control programme.
