The Irrigation Department has issued a warning for potential flooding in the low-lying areas of the Deduru Oya and Attanagalu Oya basins.

The water level in the Deduru Oya is near overflow, leading to the opening of the reservoir's spill gates and a discharge of nineteen point four thousand cubic feet of water per second (19,400 cusecs). 

Affected divisional areas include Chilaw and Mahawa.

Meanwhile, significant rainfall in the Attanagalu Oya basin could cause flooding in the low-lying areas of the Attanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys within the next forty-eight hours. 

This includes areas like Gampaha, Wattala, and Mirigama.

Residents and motorists are urged to pay high attention, as some roads may be inundated.
