The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs plans to introduce a certification process for public sector positions involving direct contact with children.

Minister Saroja Savithri Paulraj stated that a Cabinet paper will be submitted on the proposed system, under which recruits would need to obtain a certificate from the Police or relevant authorities before appointment.

Existing public officers in such positions would also be required to renew the certificate at service milestones and when receiving salary increments.

The measure aims to ensure people working closely with children have not been accused of or involved in offences against children.
