The Sectoral Oversight Committee on Environment, Agriculture, and Resource Sustainability has ordered a comprehensive report on the remaining funds from the X-Press Pearl disaster, stressing that all balances must be used exclusively for environmental restoration and victim relief.

Led by Chairman Hector Appuhamy, the committee highlighted that while millions have been received, a significant portion including Rs. 293 million previously earmarked for the fisheries sector remains unutilized.

Officials attributed the delay to beneficiaries being overseas or lacking proper documentation.

The committee has demanded a full breakdown of Total compensation received to date , Exact amounts paid out to individual fishermen, Total expenditure on coastal conservation and the current unspent balance held by the Treasury.
