The Government has purchased more than 46,000 metric tonnes of paddy under its ongoing Yala season procurement programme, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Namal Karunaratne stated.

The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) began purchasing paddy on 13 July, with buying centres opened in areas recording high harvests.

The Government had initially expected to purchase around 39,500 metric tonnes.
