The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an Amber Advisory for high waves in several sea areas around Sri Lanka.

The advisory, issued at 4.00 p.m. today (30), will remain in effect until 4.00 p.m. tomorrow (31).

The warning covers sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Wave heights in these areas could increase to between 2.0 and 3.0 metres, while seawater inundation is also possible in nearshore areas extending from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Meanwhile, the naval and fishing communities operating in the affected sea areas, along with coastal communities in the identified areas, have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
