The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) stated that no solution was reached during discussions with Prime Minister and Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya over issues affecting the university system.
The talks, held yesterday (16), focused on student admissions, extended periods spent in universities and the shortage of academic staff.
FUTA President Prof. Ruchika Fernando stated that proposals prepared by the UGC and the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Directors to expedite student admissions had still not reached the Presidential Secretariat.
FUTA Secretary Senior Lecturer Charudaththe Illangasinghe stated that the union would decide on its future course of action.
