Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya stated that schoolchildren’s bag weight is expected to be significantly reduced under new education reforms from 2027.

A module-based learning system will be introduced for Grade 6, replacing large textbooks with subject-specific modules for each school term.

Books used for classroom activities will be kept at schools, reducing the number of books students need to carry between home and school.
