Mattala Airport used as warehouse | Damages to be assessed

An assessment report has been called by the Minister of Tourism on the damages done to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) by using it for paddy storage during the tenure of the previous Government.
Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga has ordered the report to be submitted to him by next week, it is learnt. The matter had been taken up during a meeting held yesterday (17) on the future plans for the airport. During the discussion, it had been brought to the attention of the Minister that Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd. (AASL) had failed to make an accurate assessment of the damages done to the airport. Ranatunga had ordered for a proper analysis to be done and the report to be submitted within a week.
