The water supply in several areas yesterday (17) was disrupted due to an islandwide power outage experienced throughout the country.
A spokesman of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) said the water supply from pumping stations had been disrupted without electric generators.
The NWSDB at the time of the power outage noted that it would take nearly three to five hours to restore the water supply once the power supply is restored and advised the general public to use water sparingly in the meantime.
Meanwhile, severe traffic congestion was also reported in several routes in Colombo as traffic lights were not functioning as a result of the power failure.
