Sri Lanka and Cuba have held discussions to strengthen bilateral cooperation, focusing on education, agriculture, and sports. Prime Minister (PM) Harini Amarasuriya met with Cuban Ambassador Patricia Lazara Pego Guerra yesterday (27) at the Prime Minister’s Office, where both sides reaffirmed their longstanding and cordial relations.
Talks centered on enhancing collaboration in education through exchange programmes and capacity-building initiatives aimed at developing human resources in both countries.
Opportunities to expand cooperation in agriculture were also discussed, particularly through knowledge sharing and technical expertise to support sustainable farming practices.
Strengthening ties in sports was another key area of focus during the meeting, reflecting a broader effort to deepen engagement across multiple sectors.
Senior officials, including Secretary to the Prime Minister Sagarika Bogahawatta and Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ratnasingam Kohularangan, were also present.
The discussions highlight ongoing efforts by Sri Lanka and Cuba to further strengthen sector-specific cooperation while maintaining strong diplomatic relations.
