The Department of Irrigation has issued a flood warning for low-lying areas along the Mahaweli River Basin over the next 48 hours.

Significant rainfall in upstream catchment areas has increased the flood risk in Divisional Secretariat Divisions including Kinniya, Muttur, and Kantale. 

Sections of the Batticaloa–Polonnaruwa Road and areas around the Somawathiya Raja Maha Vihara are likely to be inundated. 

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take precautions, while devotees are requested to avoid visiting the temple until the situation improves.
