The “Walk for Peace” programme will hold its state ceremony tomorrow (28), at 4:00 p.m. at Independence Square, with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake serving as the chief patron.

During the ceremony, the President is expected to present sacred relics and a sapling of the revered Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi to Venerable Pannakara Thero and the delegation from Vietnam accompanying him.

This event highlights the spiritual significance and international cooperation embodied in the peace walk.

The walk, now in its seventh day, began this morning from the Abeysekararama Temple and is set to conclude at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara for the day.

The entire campaign commenced on 21 April from the Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya. It is led by Venerable Pannakara Thero, accompanied by a 13-member delegation of Vietnamese monks committed to promoting peace and unity.

Following the state ceremony, the walk will resume at 5:30 p.m. and is scheduled to end at the Gangaramaya Temple around 7:00 p.m., marking the conclusion of this meaningful campaign.
