Station Masters allege Upcountry train services resumed without NBRI clearance

05 Oct 2026 | By Staff Writer

The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Association (SLRSMA) has alleged that Upcountry train services were resumed after repair work without obtaining clearance from the National Building Research Institute (NBRI).

The services between Colombo Fort, Peradeniya and Gampola resumed on 2 October after being suspended for nearly 10 months due to damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

Today (5), the first office train from Peradeniya to Colombo Fort derailed after crashing into fallen earth and rocks between Ihala Kotte, Kadigamuwa and Gangoda stations.
