Deputy Minister of Economic Development Nishantha Jayaweera has stated that plans are underway to simplify Sri Lanka’s tax system and make it more efficient from next year.
Measures will be introduced to streamline the tax structure by removing additional levies imposed alongside customs duties, with similar simplified systems planned for other Government institutions.
The Deputy Minister made the remarks at the launch of the digital signature and paperless customs declaration system.
He also stated that Sri Lanka Customs had come close to achieving its 2026 revenue target of Rs. 2,207 billion.
