Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) expects increased commercial opportunities as container shipping gradually returns to the Red Sea and Suez Canal.

HIPG stated that the port plans to increase its annual container handling capacity to two million TEUs by the first quarter of 2027.

The port also expects increased demand for transhipment, gateway cargo, bunkering and other marine services as shipping routes normalise.
