The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) stated outdated refrigerators and other inefficient appliances are driving up household electricity bills, with one in three fridges in the Western Province deemed unusable.

Imports of inefficient appliances have been banned, and stricter rules for air conditioners will take effect by year’s end.
