The Negombo High Court (HC) today (8) granted bail to former MP Nimal Lanza on a surety of Rs. 200,000.
Lanza had been remanded by the Negombo Magistrate’s Court over multiple allegations, including an assault that took place in 2006.
On 29 August, he surrendered to Kochchikade Police, following which he was arrested and remanded.
The charges, filed by the Attorney General (AG) , involve alleged assault and unlawful entry during a protest in 2006.
The court’s decision allows Lanza to remain free on bail while the legal proceedings continue.
