Sri Lanka officially launched bank card payments for bus fares today (24) at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center, with Minister Bimal Rathnayake attending the event.
The system is now active on expressway routes including Makumbura–Matara, Makumbura–Galle, Makumbura–Badulla, and Colombo–Ampara.
More routes—including Colombo–Vavuniya and Makumbura–Tangalle—will join the system tomorrow.
The Western and Uva Provincial Transport Authorities have already begun rolling out card payments on several key routes.
Officials say all expressway buses in the Western Province will adopt the system by December, with full provincial coverage planned by the end of 2026.
