The main Opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) criticised the Government for continuing to maintain a ‘silent’ policy with regard to the agreements entered into by Sri Lanka and India.
SJB Moratuwa Municipal Councilor Lihini Fernando made this statement while speaking to the media yesterday (10), where she highlighted that the seven agreements that were signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Sri Lanka were even discussed in the Parliament. Despite the suggestions put forward by a number of Parliamentarians to the Government to disclose these agreements to the country, she added, the President and the Government have adopted a ‘silent’ policy in this regard.
“Although the contents of those agreements had been requested through the Right to Information Act, the Government has not taken steps to provide that information,” Fernando said, adding that these agreements relate to crucial areas including energy, digitalisation, defence and health. Pointing out that the Government had a strong stance regarding such agreements when it was in the Opposition, she questioned the Government’s present stance.
