Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been summoned to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) tomorrow (21) for questioning. 

The summons is in connection with an ongoing investigation into a foreign trip allegedly financed with Government funds.

The probe concerns a trip that included visits to New York and the United Kingdom. 

The CID believes the London leg of the journey was for personal reasons but was paid for using public money, at an estimated cost of Rs. 16.9 million. 

So far, investigators have already questioned former presidential secretary Saman Ekanayake and former private secretary Sandra Perera as part of the inquiry.
