Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa called for urgent reforms on World Menstrual Hygiene Day, urging Sri Lanka to address period poverty and menstrual health issues.
He stated that 70% of the country’s 4.2 million menstruating individuals lack reliable access to hygiene products, while many schoolgirls miss classes due to poor facilities.
Premadasa also criticised taxes on sanitary products and noted that he would push for zero taxation, support local manufacturing, and a national policy on menstrual equity.
