- Gazette on essential services also extended
The Government extended the State of Public Emergency yesterday (29) by a further one month, citing the ongoing disaster situation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The extension was effected through a gazette notification issued by Secretary to the President Dr. N.S. Kumanayake.
The move is aimed at ensuring public safety, maintaining normalcy, and facilitating the continued supply of essential services required for daily life, authorities said.
Meanwhile, the gazette notification designating a range of services as essential has also been extended.
Accordingly, services provided by state corporations, Government departments, local government authorities, cooperative societies, and their branches will continue to be treated as essential.
These include electricity supply, the distribution of petroleum products and gas, healthcare services, and public transportation.
