Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s dedication to advancing women’s rights and equality at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women 2025 in Beijing, China, today(13).

Welcomed by President Xi Jinping, the Prime Minister addressed the forum, stating that while progress had been made since the 1995 World Conference on Women, serious gaps remain, including a low 48.7 per cent female labour-force participation.

She highlighted Sri Lanka’s commitment to increase women’s representation in decision-making and implement the National Policy on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment.

The Prime Minister pledged to ensure women from all social and marginalised backgrounds are represented across all sectors.
