The Department of Inland Revenue has introduced a new Privilege Card Scheme aimed at recognizing and rewarding responsible individual taxpayers who consistently fulfill their tax obligations.
The initiative seeks to promote voluntary self-assessed tax payments, reduce tax evasion, and honor high-contributing taxpayers.
Eligible taxpayers must have paid income tax equal to or exceeding their previous year's self-assessment payments and meet criteria such as timely tax payments and a good compliance record.
The scheme offers two categories: Gold and Silver, based on the taxpayer’s income tax contributions in the previous assessment year.
- Gold Card: For taxpayers who paid Rs. 5 million or more in income tax.
- Silver Card: For those who paid between Rs. 3 million and Rs. 5 million.
Interested taxpayers can apply via the official IRD website (www.ird.gov.lk) before the extended deadline of 28 February, 2026.
