SLS certification made mandatory for plastic and feeding bottles from April 2026

03 Oct 2025 | BY Staff Writer

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced that from 1 April 2026, all reusable plastic bottles and polymer-based feeding bottles must carry Sri Lanka Standards (SLS) certification.

According to the Extraordinary Gazette issued on October 1, manufacturers, importers, and traders will be prohibited from producing, importing, or selling such bottles without the certification mark.

The directive covers SLS 1616 (reusable plastic bottles for drinkable liquids) and SLS 1306 (polymer feeding bottles). Imported products must also be inspected and approved by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI).

CAA Chairman Hemantha Samarakoon said the regulation aims to ensure consumer safety and prevent substandard plastic products from entering the local market.
