Cabinet has approved Rs. 1.0675 billion in equity capital for Lanka Metro Transit (Private) Limited to expand its urban public transport operations.
The company, a subsidiary of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, currently operates a Colombo pilot service with 10 low-floor buses and plans to add 112 more buses from September.
The funding includes Rs. 800 million for infrastructure in 2026 and Rs. 267.5 million for operations in 2027. It will support a central workshop in Ekala and bus depots in Thalangama, Kadawatha, Ratmalana and Homagama.
