The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) will launch a one-day strike across Sri Lanka’s state university system on 30 October over several concerns.
FUTA General Secretary Senior Lecturer Charudaththe Illangasinghe stated that the action was prompted by a shortage of academic staff, excessive workloads and inadequate physical facilities at state universities.
FUTA has also planned a protest march to coincide with the strike to draw public attention to the challenges facing the state university system.
