Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Member of Parliament Mujibur Rahuman said that even though the President had stated that he would contest the Presidential Election as an independent candidate he still had not left the leadership of the United National Party, he is still with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and one faction of the SLPP has even selected Ranil Wickremasinghe as their candidate for the presidential election.

Member of Parliament Mujibur Rahuman stated this while participating in the media conference held on 28 July at Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Head Office in Pitakotte.

MP Rahuman said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe knows that he cannot win the Presidential Election with the group that bankrupted the country and that is why he is inviting the SJB team, but no member of the SJB will join the President.

MP Rahman mentioned that the President is trying to violate the constitution to remain in power and he is working to lead the country into anarchy for the survival of him and his team and he is also trying hard to destroy the country's democracy and the rule of law.

Speaking further, he aired his views thus:

President Ranil Wickremesinghe is using various tricks to disrupt the Presidential Election process. Even after the Election Commission announced The Local Government Election, President Ranil Wickramesinghe decided not to hold the Local Government Election. Also, the President decided not to release money to hold the Local Government Election. Political parties also filed a case in the Supreme Court in this regard. Later, even though the Supreme Court gave an order to release money to hold the Local Government Election, the President did not release money.

Nominations have been called for the Presidential Election. Also, the date of the Presidential Election has been announced. President Ranil Wickremesinghe was continuously using various tricks to postpone the Presidential Election. Also, the Chairperson and Secretary of the United National Party continuously issued various statements that the President's term should be extended. Also, the President sent two people to the Supreme Court to ask the opinion of the Supreme Court regarding the tenure of the President. The Supreme Court rejected the petitions. After those petitions were rejected, the President proceeded to present the 22nd Amendment to the Parliament. Instead of supporting the Election Commission to hold the election, the President did things that could prevent the election from taking place. The fact that the President is afraid of the election is evident from his actions. Also, the law does not allow the President to not hold the Presidential Election. Presidential Election has to be held whether President Ranil Wickremesinghe likes it or not.

Also, during his tenure, President Ranil Wickremesinghe made a strong effort to bring the judicial system under his control. Even though the President presents himself as a democratic leader to the people, he continues to destroy the judicial system and the rule of law.

The Supreme Court has already given a decision regarding the appointment of the Inspector General of Police. The Supreme Court has ordered that the appointment of the Inspector General of Police by the Constituent Assembly has not been made in a legal manner. But the President has stated that he will not accept the Supreme Court order. The Prime Minister also stated in Parliament that the Government will not accept the order given by the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of the Inspector General of Police. When the Prime Minister made this statement, President's Counsel Ali Sabri did not say anything. The Minister of Justice did not come to Parliament. It seems that they have accepted that what the President is doing is unconstitutional.

The President declared that the Legislature is a part of the Executive. He did not say that the Legislature is a part of the Parliament. If the Legislature is a part of the executive, surely the civil citizens of the country have the right to file fundamental rights petitions. That is why civil citizens filed petitions in the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of the Inspector General of Police. The Government wanted to keep Deshabandu Tennakoon as the Inspector General of Police until the end of the election process.

Also, in 2018, Maithripala Sirisena removed Ranil Wickremesinghe who was the Prime Minister and appointed Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister. Against that political conspiracy, facts were presented before the Supreme Court. There, the Supreme Court re-appointed President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister. On that day Ranil Wickremesinghe accepted the Supreme Court ruling. But today the President has reached a situation where he does not accept Supreme Court decisions.

Also, Ranil Wickremesinghe states that the President does not have the power to appoint an Acting Inspector General of Police. But before Deshabandu Tennakoon was appointed as the Inspector General of Police, C.D. Wickramaratne was appointed as the Inspector General of Police thrice by President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Now the President is declaring that an Acting Inspector General cannot be appointed. The President says that he cannot make appointments because he is a Presidential Candidate. The President is involved in various openings, makes appointments and releases money for development activities. But they say that the President cannot appoint an Acting Inspector General of Police. The extent of President Ranil Wickremesinghe's conspiracies can be seen from these activities.

The President is violating the constitution in order to stay in power and he is trying to create conflicts and anarchy in the country. The President is working to lead the country to anarchy for the survival of the President and his team. He is also trying to destroy the country's democracy and the rule of law.

The SJB is working to defeat all the conspiracies of the President and achieve a great victory in the Presidential Election. Also, the SJB under the leadership of Sajith Premadasa is ready to defeat the group that destroyed the country.

The President has announced that he will contest the Presidential Election as an independent candidate. But he has not left the leadership of the United National Party. Ranil Wickramasinghe, who is an independent candidate, has now joined the SLPP. One group in SLPP has chosen Ranil Wickremesinghe as their Presidential Candidate. Also on stage with Ranil Wickremesinghe is the team that bankrupted the country. Ranil Wickremesinghe knows that he cannot win an election with that group, which is why he is asking the SJB team to join him. But none of the MPs of SJB will join the President.
