Sri Lanka’s Armed Forces Remembrance and Poppy Day ceremony was held yesterday (16) at the Cenotaph War Memorial in Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo, under the patronage of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.

The PM laid a wreath and paid floral tributes to honour soldiers who sacrificed their lives from World War I to the present.

The Cenotaph, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, is one of the country’s oldest war memorials and hosts the annual national Remembrance Day event.

The ceremony was organized with the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association and attended by senior defence officials, foreign diplomats, and retired military officers.

Poppy Day, inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields, continues to serve as a global symbol of honouring fallen war heroes.
