Sri Lankan Navy’s first SEAL trident holder Lieutenant Koyan Chamitha passes away

Lieutenant Koyan Chamitha of the Sri Lanka Navy’s elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS), the first Sri Lankan to complete the U.S. Navy SEAL basic training and earn the SEAL Trident, has passed away in the early hours at the Walisara Wardroom. 


The 24-year-old, from Gampaha and an alumnus of Bandaranaike College, made history last year by completing the rigorous SEAL training, a milestone that brought national pride.  


Details surrounding his death are still emerging, with preliminary reports suggesting a possible heart attack. 


Lieutenant Chamitha’s remarkable achievement and dedication to service have left a lasting legacy in Sri Lanka’s military history.
