At least 15 people were injured when a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus overturned near a house in Araliya Uyana today (3). The bus was en route from Kudugala to Kandy via Wattegama.

SLTB Kandy District Manager Sanath Prasanna stated that the accident occurred when the driver attempted to close a door near his seat that had suddenly opened while in motion, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

8 injured passengers were admitted to the Wattegama Hospital, though none are in critical condition. The bus was carrying around 25 passengers at the time.

The bus also damaged a nearby house when it veered off the road and down a slope. Wattegama Police are conducting further investigations.
