Sri Lanka has launched a national programme to conserve 1,000 archaeological sites across the country, marking the start of Archaeology Week.
The first phase will focus on conserving 100 identified sites while accelerating excavation, research and preservation efforts.
Community Conservation Committees will also be established to encourage public participation, with all activities carried out under the guidance of the Department of Archaeology.
This year's Archaeology Week is being held under the theme "Bringing Heritage to Life."
