The Ministry of Defence has granted permission for the Police to detain and interrogate Ishara Sewwandi, one of the key suspects in the murder of an organised crime figure known as ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’, for 90 days. 

The Ministry has granted permission for the detention and interrogation of Sewwandi following a request made by the Sri Lanka Police.

Sewwandi, who went into hiding following Sanjeewa’s murder earlier this year, was arrested in Nepal last week. Along with several other persons who were arrested with her, Sewwandi was extradited to Sri Lanka. The arrest was a result of a joint operation between Sri Lanka and several other parties including Nepali authorities and the International Police.
