The Cabinet has approved a proposal to reassess and amend the Sri Lanka Electricity Act No. 36 of 2024, which came into effect on 27 June.
Concerns were raised that the provisions, institutions, and roles outlined in the Act may not meet its objectives, potentially burdening the electricity sector and consumers.
A committee of key stakeholders and energy policy experts will now study the Act and recommend amendments to ensure the establishment of a sustainable and secure electricity sector.
