At least twenty-one persons have been reported missing following a landslide in the Monroviyawatte area of Thulhiriya in Warakapola, police have confirmed.

The incident is the latest in a series of disasters linked to the severe weather conditions across the island.

Police have immediately launched a rescue operation in the area to locate and assist those affected by the incident. 

Authorities are working to determine the full scale of the disaster and coordinate with Disaster Management officials on the ground. 

The public is urged to avoid the area to allow rescue teams to work unimpeded.
