The Department of Meteorology has warned of the possible formation of a low-pressure area over the southeastern Bay of Bengal by tomorrow (13).
The Department has urged the fishing and naval communities to closely monitor future forecasts and advisories issued in connection with the developing weather system.
Showers or thunderstorms are likely at several places in the sea areas around Sri Lanka, the Department stated.
Winds are expected to blow from the north-east or from variable directions at speeds of around 20 to 30 kilometres per hour.
However, during thunderstorms, strong winds of 60 to 70 kilometres per hour may occur, temporarily making the affected sea areas very rough.
The Department has urged those engaged in fishing and naval activities to remain alert to further weather updates.
